Groundhog Day 2012

6 More Weeks of Winter?
Punxsutawney Phil should leave his burrow around 7:30 am - February 2nd at Gobblers Knob in Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania, and observe the weather conditions and look for his shadow.......he will then make his prediction for the rest of the winter.

I found several daffodils ready to bloom in Coal City, IN, today!!

Winter

It's winter...I think!
I'm sure the blustery cold weather will be upon us sooner than we think after all that's what the wooly worm and persimmon seeds tell us.  I checked out the weather forecasters in October and thought I would test their predictions.

Wooly Worm - When the wooly worms are dark or have a thick black stripe, it's going to be a hard winter.....hmmmmm...  he's really black.

Persimmon Seed  -  The persimmon seed foretells the severity of the winter as well.  Folklore has it that you can tell how severe winter will be by cutting open the persimmon and cutting the seed in half and looking at what is inside.  If you find a...
  • Spoon - get the shovel ready, there will be a lot of snow to shovel.
  • Knife - Bundle up!  It's going to be so cold it will cut through you like a knife.
  • Fork - Relax - it's going to be a mild winter and there won't be much snow.
Well it seems that my forecasters have a pretty severe winter in store for us.   Better get the shovels ready.  The long handle on that spoon means it will be a deep snow!

I really hope Spring comes soon!
